According to the Manila Bulletin Newspaper, the devotion to the Holy Child finds its roots in the beginnings of Christianity when Ferdinand Magellan and his companions brought with them the image of the Santo Niño. Magellan gave the image to Queen Juana of Cebu as a baptismal gift. Many Filipinos around the world celebrate the Feast of the Santo Niño as an extended Christmas.
